Module One: Overcoming Learning Challenges
Reading: Introduction to Fiction and Nonfiction (ask/answer text related questions, recount story, describe characters, main idea, gist, literal/nonliteral phrases)
Language: Meaning Multiple Words, Context Clues, affixes (dis-, ly-,il-) dictionary/glossary use
Writing: Informative/Explanatory (introduce topic, include illustrations, include definitions and details, concluding statements, revise/edit linking words and phrases, note taking and source reference)
Module Two: Frogs
Reading: Fiction and Nonfiction (ask/answer text related questions, recount story, main idea, gist, literal/nonliteral phrases, relationship between scientific ideas, sequencing, cause/effect, use information gained from illustrations, 5Ws and H questions,refer to events and how they build on earlier parts of the story, connections between points in the text, nonfiction text features, search tools, purpose of text)
Language: irregular/regular verbs, comparative/superlative adjectives/adverbs, coordinating/subordinating conjunctions, simple/compound/complex sentences, simple verb tenses-past/present/future, words and phrase for effect, multiple meaning words, context clues, affixes (re-, -ous, -vore), dictionary/glossary use, rhyming words, irregular past tense
Writing: Informative/Explanatory (introduce topic, include illustrations, include definitions and details, concluding statements, revise/edit, linking words and phrases) Conduct short research project, note taking and source reference
Narrative (plot/events, character, setting, dialogue, temporal words
Module Three: Peter Pan
Reading: Fiction (ask/answer text related questions, recount story, describe characters, main idea, gist, refer to events and how they build on earlier parts of the story, literal/nonliteral phrases, use information gained
from illustrations, distinguish own point of view from narrator/character, mood and tone from illustration, compare and contrast the themes of two texts written by the same author
Language: words and phrase for effect, multiple meaning words, context clues, affixes (un-, -ive), dictionary/glossary use, subject/verb and pronoun/antecedent agreement, capitalize appropriate words in a title, commas/quotation marks in dialogue, form/use possessives, spelling irregular verb tenses changes-y to i, silent e to ed, short vowel double consonant before a suffix, shades of meaning(doubtful/certain/uncertain), figurative language
Writing: Narrative (plot/events, character, setting, dialogue, temporal words, and sense of closure, revise/edit), linking words and phrases, use technology to produce writing
